THE $WINNIE STORY

The frog is from 2005. The dog is from 2010. The bear is from 1926.

Milne spelled him Winnie-the-Pooh, with the hyphens. Disney dropped them in 1961, along with everything else that made him strange. $WINNIE is the hyphenated one.

Every meme animal got a coin. $WINNIE isn't the next one. It's the first one. October 14, 2026 is one hundred years, to the day, since A. A. Milne published Winnie-the-Pooh. The oldest character in the game, a century before any of them, and the only one walking out of copyright while you watch.

1914 A Canadian army vet buys a black bear cub for $20 at a train stop and names her Winnie, after his hometown of Winnipeg. On his way to the war in France, he leaves her at the London Zoo. And yes, the real Winnie was a girl.
1921 A boy named Christopher Robin gets a teddy bear from Harrods for his first birthday, and names it after the bear he loves visiting at the zoo.
24 DEC 1925 Winnie-the-Pooh appears by name for the first time, in a story A. A. Milne writes for the London Evening News. The BBC reads it on the radio on Christmas Day.
14 OCT 1926 Milne publishes Winnie-the-Pooh. Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga and Roo, and a bear of very little brain who belongs to everyone who reads him.
1961 A company buys him, puts him in a red shirt, and registers him as a trademark.
2022 The original 1926 book enters the public domain in the US. Winnie starts walking home.

So we're drawing him ourselves. Pen, marker, badly. The best bear becomes the official $WINNIE: profile picture, this site, everything.

The winning artist gets 1% of the supply. Ten million $WINNIE, carved straight out of the 5% the team buys at launch, sent from the declared wallet with the transaction published.
